August 17, 2008 // I saw IT!!
Holy @$%^, I saw TDK, and it was only...

EFFING O-MAZING!!!!!

Heath Ledger as the Joker was soooooo creepy, I was spooked and yet so fascinated by him, it was great. Maggie Gyllenhaal's a cameo. Christian Bale is pretty hot, nice strong jaw line and all. As for acting - well, I was blown away by Heath Ledger, I suppose, but I didn't really pay attention to any of the acting quality by the rest of the cast, because...well...come on, it's based on a comic book, everything's going to over dramatic and one-liners. In fact, I loved it so much I decided to watch Batman Begins and I loved that too. Although there seems to be a lack of chemistry between Christian Bale and Katie Holmes...I wish there was more romance between them, I guess, because they were so cute as kids.

And now I reaaaaalllyyy hope Maggie Gyllenhaal returns as Catwoman (because apparently she signed on for the next film) because then they'd make a purpose for Rachel Dawes other than being Batman's girly friend. She can be kinky assassin now too! I only wish it was a different actress.

Yeah, Christian Bale is like my new crush. Or Batman/Bruce Wayne. Teehee.

CHRISTOPHER NOLAN, YOU ARE MAH HERO. NOW GET WORKING ON THE THIRD FILM, A'IGHT?

Add me on eljay: quietreveries

I've realized that these long periods of not-blogging has contributed to me being a complete klutz at HTML now. I've forgotten so much. It's shameful.

Do any of you have those friends who are really resistant to change? You know, those ones who make new acquaintances easily but perhaps not new friends easily, the ones who hang out with the same people for ten years?

Yeah. They turn out very resilient and unwilling to participate in things social. It's somewhat frustrating when you start trying to make new friends alongside her, but she doesn't quite want to bond substantially. When I say alongside, I mean making mutual friends.

I'm not exactly willing to do anything or embrace change either, but I'm willing to cooperate.

Aghhh. Time to work.

August 7, 2008 // Mummy!
Lulz, I'm glad you guys liked the summary, I didn't think it was hilarious enough but passable =p

I saw The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and I have got to say...it was a little bit too....ugh.

Yeah, ugh.

The girl they hired as Luke Ford's love interest is reaaalllyyy pretty though and every time she was on screen I was like, "Squee! She's so pretty!" And Luke Ford ain't bad either, so yeah, I guess the two of them were kind of cute, but there's really no chemistry and they fall in love way too quickly to not mind that one of them's immortal (hint: that's the girl).

Also, they changed Evie - and I mean REALLY changed her. I luuuuurve Rachel Weisz (like who doesn't? You see her and you want to clap your hands together cuz she's just that awesome) but she wasn't Evie this time, and word is she dropped out because of the script. And now I see why, because they completely changed her character - she has one scene where she demonstrates her intelligence and the rest of it just lovey-dovey gooey-ness and swashbuckling and stuff. Evie's SUPPOSED to be the smart one, not the fighter - that's up to Brendan Fraser.

But everything works out to them thanks to Michelle Yeoh, who looks really pretty with bangs but then she combed them back for the rest of the movie so I was all, "Boo. Get those bangs back!" Jet Li was appropriately evil but I couldn't understand a word he said while he was half-dead in that distorted voice.

And basically it's just mindless action sequence after action sequence with lots of pretty CGI-ing and abominable snowmen and cheesy lines with very little substance.

*sigh* Nothing is EVER unpredictable when you put Asian people in those stereotypical roles.

And if that isn't enough, there'll be at least 2 other Mummy films, disaster after disaster.

Funnily enough, I still haven't seen TDK...maybe I oughta...but I would watch it only because there's so much hype around it.

Teen Choice Awards were this week, I believe. I saw a few minutes of it on YouTube, and look! It's Miley Cyrus singing in her man voice and she must have been invisibly pinching her nose because THAT'S WHAT IT FREAKING SOUNDED LIKE. I didn't stick around after that, though, because when they present the awards it's lame and they all read like robots.

I feel sorry for Miley Cyrus though. It's as if everything she does has to be criticized and put into a bad light because she's so famous.

Seriously though, I see NOTHING SPECIAL about the Jonas Brothers. NO-THING. Disney scandals are lame...they act like a bunch of pre-teens, for god's sake, what trouble could they possibly get into?

This is pretty much an entertainment-only blog...yup.

*totters off to dreamland*

August 2, 2008 // Breaking Dawn
WELCOME BACK EVERYONE WHO HAS THOUGHT I WAS DEAD =DDD <3

I'm still debating about what I should do with my LJ. The Friends-only function is quite useful.

And Breaking Dawn came out today (well midnight actually, but who cares) and of course I wanted closure after reading all those other stories, and long story short, it was crap. It was basically girly fanfiction spanned over a length equal to that of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Yeah. I'm not finished yet, but I'm pretty annoyed Stephenie Meyer spent about 200 pages describing an icky pregnancy. Who does that?!

*sigh* *broods* Is working again, so might not check back for a bit.

Oh yeah, also heard about a man being stabbed and beheaded and sawed up on a Greyhound bus in Winnipeg. Pretty scary stuff. If you haven't heard about it already, basically a man got pissed at a 22-year-old for sleeping or snoring, and started stabbing him in the neck. Then he de-limbed him and sawed his head off and displayed it in front of the passengers when they evacuated.

And now Greyhound buses will never be the same again - their reputation for safety, at least. *sigh*

July 26, 2008 // Artemis Fowl 6 = Ehhh.
So I went to Costco yesterday and guess what I find? THE 6TH ARTEMIS FOWL BOOK CAME OUT!! On the 15th, apparently. So I'm totally psyched and I didn't stop reading from the moment I got my hands on it 'till I was finished.

And Jesus Christ, WTF.

****SPOILER WARNING****

The novel starts out innocently enough, with Artemis's new twin brothers, characteristically adorable, both of whom were mentioned at the end of the last book. Also mentioned at the end of the last book was that MINERVA, THE GIRL WHO MADE ARTEMIS ALL ADOLESCENT-BOY-Y was quite the beauty and smart and pining for him and all that. See, I expected her to come back, despite her infuriating Mary-Sue-ness, because

1) Artemis finally had a love interest in his own species
2) She was a one-dimensional character with not much development
3) I'd like to see Eoin redeem her Mary-Sue-ness with some flaws or at least some differences from Artemis. Even HOW SHE WAS NAMED is similar to Artemis *puke* so I would've liked to see her developed in a lot more depth and her brattiness gone and not so much a female clone of our little Arty.

But she's NOT IN THE BOOK, GUYS. I hope you Minerva haters are happy (which you probably are). Instead, Eoin Colfer decides to satisfy his fans by making his physically 14-year-old boy genius and 80-year-old elf captain GET TOGETHER, and to make this more acceptable their time travel makes Artemis 4-5 years older and makes the elf captain roughly at adolescence, and then Artemis almost dies, Holly saves him, and they kiss.

THEY EFFING KISS.

Can you say what the hell were you thinking when you wrote that you crazy author?!!! I nearly died. A curly-haired attractive smart blonde closer to Artemis's age gets inserted into the 5th book, appears to be his girlfriend, throws a fit of bitchiness but still gets Artemis's attention, and now Holly's making out with him?!!!

Talk about misleading.

Although I think Eoin reads fan comments on forums so he probably did it to please them.

Then, random stuff happens, Opal's the villain in this one AGAIN for some odd reason although I like her conceited-ness, lots of unnecessary twists and turns, Artemis does a lovely stunt or two, but of course it's a characteristic happy ending with just one little loose end.

Honestly, though, the last scene in the book would've worked MUCH better had this been the end of the series.

Eoin Colfer creates a lot of one-dimensional characters, and he really needs to flesh them out more. And no Minerva. Those were basically my reasons for not liking the book that much.

So aside from that, I got my Frosh Week package recently. It looked fun (minus the alcohol), but strayed way too close to the first day of enrolment and such...would not want to go to uni exhausted on the first day. So I'll probably skip out on it or worm my way into a few days.

What amused me, though, was that it said they did not support alcohol, and yet it recommended a designated driver and cautioned about hangovers. Talk about contradictory.

July 13, 2008 // "She's not one of us"

*drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool* *drool*

I totally want a vampire boyfriend now.

I didn't find RP that attractive before and didn't understand all the hype around him.

I DO NOW. *hyperventilates*

[EDIT] Look at him, all tall and brooding. I imagined Edward to be more feminine but daaaayaaaaam the trailer just makes him look so perfect for part. [/EDIT]

[EDIT #2] I'm rather obsessed with Twilight, but I'd also like to make my full opinion on it clear. Ladies and gentlemen, it is not one of the best things ever written. While reading it, you can't help but feel as though Bella is exactly what Stephenie Meyer wanted to be - was? - as a teenager, and I agree with Andrea, she is Mary-Sueness all over.

Meyer tries to make it into an epic romance by comparing B&E to Romeo and Juliet and Wuthering Heights, but to me it just comes across as lame because comparing things to R+J has just become old, and drawing connections between their relationships and those other ones just degrades the uniqueness of it all. And goddammit, I'm finally finished with Shakespeare so PLEASE DO NOT REMIND ME OF HIS CONFUZZLING PROSE AGAIN. Plus, the out-of-date words and corny expressions and awkward phrases all the characters say (not just Edward) are just way out of place (i.e. Jacob calling Bella "honey"?). Also notice her lack of vocabulary - I dare you to drink just a sip of alcohol for every time a vampire is described as having an "angel" face, or when somebody "winces", and I guarantee you will be hammered in an hour.

Who the heck says "moot point" at regular intervals? Well...in all fairness I probably will now, because it's just been thrown around again and again.

The only thing that redeems the novels is the seductive premise - after all, who doesn't want a sexy perfect loving protective vampire boyfriend like the one in the trailer? *starts drooling again*

Yeah, again in all fairness, if I hated the books that much I wouldn't have supported their sales, so yeah. Damn Edward! He's just so lovable. [/EDIT #2]
